Things People Don’t Realise About Collecting Plants & Crystals (Until They Do)- part 2

Part 2:

Points 1 to 3 were provided on my last blog, now I have finally got around to putting the hose down and stopped removing dry leaves in order to finish off my mental list. Here goes:

4. You will understand why rare things cost what they do

At first you think, “Why is this plant so expensive?”

Then you learn:

  • how slowly it grows,

  • how long someone has cared for it and how many times we have gone back and forth removing leaves/tending to its every need/checking for bugs or pests,

  • how rarely it pups,

  • how difficult it is to source.

Suddenly the price makes sense. It’s not hype. It’s time.

Years, sometimes.

5. You will start saying, “I don’t have room” while actively making room

This is a universal stage.

You will reorganise shelves. Move furniture. Justify new pots. Create space where space did not previously exist.

Because when you find something special, you don’t say no.

You rearrange your life slightly.

6. You will realise this is less of a hobby and more of a personality trait

At some point you stop buying plants and crystals because you need them…

…and start buying them because they make you genuinely happy to look at every day.

And honestly, that’s reason enough.

If you’ve already experienced any of the above, welcome. You’re one of us.

And if you’re just starting out, this is your gentle warning that this hobby has a way of quietly taking over — in the best possible way.

Also, you’ll never look at a “green spiky thing” or a “pink rock” the same way again.
